Boutique - Mannequins

In New Style Boutique 3: Styling Star, you are able to set up and dress a mannequin at the front of your boutique to advertise outfits to potential customers. There are a few features you can customise on the mannequin such as colour and hair. Mannequins are an excellent way to get rid of excess stock at the boutique and experiment with creating outfits. The mannequin unlocks during the main story line and is only available at the boutique.

When you are in your Boutique, click the manage icon and then the Mannequin icon. A menu will appear on the bottom screen with the following options: Outfit, Hair, Body Colour and Pose. Now we'll cover what you can do in each option. You can also change the appearance of the area the mannequin is placed in through the Shop Window option available through the Remodel icon under the Manage Icon at the boutique.

Outfit
This is the most important one as this is where you will choose an outfit for the mannequin to wear. Now you can't just throw any outfit on the mannequin, it needs to match one certain image/style. Dressing a mannequin is simple, you just choose an outfit like you would if you were serving a customer. Here's some helpful tips for dressing mannequins:
  • Use the cycle system! This is a system I discovered that works best when selling mannequin outfits. Start with a theme from the list (such as lively) and place an outfit matching that theme on the mannequin. Once the lively outfit has sold, create an outfit based off the next theme in the list such as Eastern. Repeat until you've gone through all the images. I find this is the best method to move mannequin outfits and I sell one mannequin outfit per game day. If you place the same image outfit on the mannequin after you've just sold one (i.e. a baby-doll outfit after you've sold a baby-doll outfit), you'll have trouble selling the outfit. So it is best to cycle styles and you don't have to work in a straight list, you can say use Gothic first, then girly, then preppy and then bold.
  • Dress the mannequin according to the current season. No customer is going to buy a woollen coat in the middle of summer and they will comment if the outfit is too hot or too cold for the current season.
  • Don't mix and match too many styles. Customers will not purchase or be interested in outfits that match styles. For example, many outfits from Purple Moon have items in the outfit belonging to multiple themes (i.e. the skirt is preppy but the top is lively). This means you will have trouble selling Purple Moon outfits unless the entire outfit is from the same theme.
  • Try placing pieces you want to get rid off on the mannequin. I like to place a Purple Moon t-shirt with lively designs because no one ever requests to buy those.
  • There's no price limit to the outfit. Customers will buy the outfit no matter what the price is if it meets their style.
  • If customers are after Chic style outfits, you can make some quick money by placing the most expensive items you have on the mannequin.
  • Regularly update the outfit on your mannequin. Customers want to see something new and will not purchase an outfit if it has been on the mannequin for a long time.

Purple Moon - Amiibo Items

In the previous game in the Style Boutique series Fashion Forward, you could unlock special Nintendo themed clothing items using a variety of amiibos. Some of these exclusive items have been included in the new game Styling Star as in-game items that are available from the Purple Moon brand. Amiibos no longer unlock clothing items and now instead unlock emblems and designs for use in the Design feature. For information about the original amiibo items, please check out the Amiibo Guide on the Style Boutique 2 Guide Blog.

The following Fashion Forward amiibo items are available from Purple Moon in Styling Star:
  • Egg Hooded Jacket
  • Princess Crown
  • Star Hairpin
  • Town Secretary Shirt
  • Starry Dress
  • M Hat
  • Bounty Hunter Boots
  • Yoga Earrings
  • Galactic Visor
  • Kirby Bag
  • Princess Tiara
  • Inky Leggings
  • Sheikah Scarf

The Goddess Top (from the Paulenta Amiibo) and the Warrior Skirt (from Lucina/Fire Emblem Amiibos) were not included in the new game. No reason has been given, but may be due to being lesser known/publicised Nintendo characters. Only one colour variation of the amiibo items has been included in Styling Star. Previously in Fashion Forward, you could unlock five colours of each amiibo item. The amiibo items in Styling Star only come in their original/basic colours, i.e. Mario's M Hat is the red colour. All the items are available from Purple Moon and appear at different times throughout the course of the in-game year. Be sure to check Purple Moon often to see which items are in stock. Here are images of all the old amiibo items in Styling Star:

Hairstyle Guide

There are a large number of hairstyles on offer in Style Boutique 3: Styling Star ranging from short styles to updos such as pigtails or cat ears. The method for unlocking hairstyles is different to the one in Fashion Forward. In Fashion Forward, you had to locate certain characters to unlock styles or work at the hair salon and unlock them at random. In Styling Star, hairstyles automatically unlock whilst you progress through the main story line of the game. Once you complete the main story line, all the hairstyles will be available. The hairstyles of the main girl characters such as Angelique and Camilla become available once you complete the main story line.

The hairstyles are divided into the following categories in the game.
Short = 11 styles.
Medium = 23 styles
Long =  22 styles
Fringes = 29 styles

Some hair styles do not have a fringe option such as bobs or side swept. A number of hairstyles that were featured in Fashion Forward have unfortunately been removed in Styling Star. The Bob and Updo categories have been removed and the hairstyles that remained in that category were moved to other categories. The pictures below show what each hairstyle looks like and all hairstyles (excluding fringes) were styled using the swept back fringe option.

April Poll Results - New Clothing Items

April is over for another year and last months poll has come to a close! The question for this month was 'What new clothing item do you love?' There was 86 votes in total and one of the results took out 50% of the vote!

So the results are in on what new clothing item is the favourite amongst players. The results are:
1st = Bracelets & Bangles
2nd = Headphones & Stage Costumes (Designer Item)
3th = Watches

It seems everyone was crazy for bracelets and bangles as they had 50% of the votes. Headphones was tied second with stage costumes with 22% each of the votes. Watches came in last place with 5% of the votes. I can understand why bracelets and bangles ranked so highly as they are the perfect item to spruce up an outfit. I thought headphones might have come first, but it seems people love bracelets and bangles. Now if only we could have rings in the game.

The new poll for May is 'What's your favourite activity in Shopdo?' To vote, simply scroll down the side bar and the poll is under the game box images. If you cannot view the poll, please visit the blog using the web version. The blog is not available in mobile view on some devices. If you are on a mobile, select 'View web version' at the bottom of the page.
