Head to the beautician and talk to Lorelei to get a set of new nails. She will ask what type of nails you would like and the nail selection screen will appear. Nails are available in each of the styles in the game (i.e. girly, gothic, chic etc.). Each style category has a selection of different patterns and colours unique to that style. The categories appear along the top of the bottom 3DS screen. Prices vary for the nail sets and an example of how the design will look is shown on the top 3DS screen. Once you find a nail design that you like, select OK and a short animation will play of Lorelei doing your nails. Your character will then show off the completed look. Any nails sets you buy from the Beautician are available in the Nails option at your apartment. The pictures below show examples of nail designs from each of the style categories.
To change your nails at your apartment, select the nails option. All the nail designs you have purchased at the beautician will be available. A few designs were default in the game and were available from the beginning.
At the beautician, you can serve customers and pick a nail design for them. When you work at the Beautician, you do not earn money for your work and only your Stylist Rank and Hearts increases. If you have enough hearts with a customer on their contact card, you can send them a message asking them to come get a new set of nails. Customers will also just appear at the beautician looking to change their nails. Talk to the customer and they will ask you to change their nails. Usually they will not give you a specific style and will let you choose which either design you like. After the customer has talked to you about getting their nails done, a short animation plays of you and Lorelei looking at a design book.
The nails selection screen will appear and you can choose the design you want to use for the customers nails. It's a good idea to pick a design that matches the clothing style they are currently wearing or experiment and see how it turns out. Once you have decided on a design, select OK and a short animation plays of Lorelei painting their nails. Afterwards the customer will show off their nails and tell you what they think about them.
The game will show you a scene of the customer, Lorelei and you celebrating the sale. After this your character will see the customer off after the job. The Stylist Rank will increase a medium amount and the Hearts will also increase on the customer's contact card.
You don't get paid to do nails in this game? Is hearts and stylist rank enough incentive to use this activity?
ReplyDeleteNope, you don't get paid for nails which is annoying. You don't get paid for make-up or haircuts either. They're just activities to take part it.
DeleteThere wil be a point where you will need to do it as the customers at the shop run out quickly. I hardly get any customers after the morning which was something I was worried about as I had this issue with Trendseters.
It's important to raise your hearts with customers as you can send them messages asking them to visit you at different shops. But you can only send a few messages a day. You need to increase your stylist rank to unlock new features in the game such as stock space or trigger game events like new characters. Working at the beautician increases the rank by a medium amount so it is worth it if you have nothing else to do.
Hmm, the pay for haircuts/styles and make-up sets was low in Fashion Forward ($150.00) and I can't remember if make-up jobs earned more so I wonder if increases in Stylist Rank in this new game might be better than the money or not. How does the sending messages feature play out? Do you find yourself using it a lot? Is it fun? Oh, and on what planet would the name "Garlic Stripe" make one want to buy nail polish?
DeleteThe Stylist Rank isn't worth anything besides unlocking things during the main story line, after that it doesn't do much. I'm on nearly Level 80 and nothing exciting happens. You definitely need to earn lots of money in this game as there are achievements for reaching certain amounts like a million.
DeleteThe sending messages feature is pretty lackluster. The only messages you can send are asking them to come to any of the following locations: Boutique, Haircut, make-up and nails. Less options for male characters. You can only send certain messages once you have a certain number of hearts with a customer. I've reached the second level of hearts with some and the questions are still the same.
It is a weird name isn't it? Plus it doesn't really relate to garlic at all.
So, at what Stylist Rank do the unlocks stop happening? I'm definitely loving the new stylish art direction for this game. Unfortunately I won't be buying it on Xmas Day after all b/c I found out the game will be exactly $58.30 CAD which converts to 59.19 AUD. I will buy at first sale, however. How much did you pay for it?
DeleteIt's one of the higher ones but it also depends on where you are in the story line as new characters/shop owners arrive at different times. But most of the main ones unlock at early levels and it isn't difficult to increase your rank. The trick is to sell full outfits as the more items a customer buys, the more stylist rank you get.
DeleteUgh that's expensive. I've heard Canada has a terrible exchange rate sometimes. New Style Boutique 3 is $49 in Australia which is about $48.19CAD. However only three shops sell it that I know of, I got mine from EB Games which is our version of Gamespot. The cheapest online is $44 but you need to pay shipping on most sites and then it isn't worth the cheaper price as shipping is expensive in Australia usually.
I wouldn't have a problem buying it physical b/c I know a store that discounts 10% off pre-orders which would make it $50.85 CAD after taxes. I just can't bring myself to spend almost $60.00 on a digital game. Canada has EB Games, too. Do you know of any Japanese DLC items that might already be integrated into gameplay, ie. available at the Buyer's Centre?
Delete10% off pre-orders sounds amazing! I'm not sure what the price the game is for the digital copy here but probably expensive as the eShop is overpriced.
DeleteThere is currently no DLC available for the game and I haven't heard of any announced yet. This game doesn't seem to be as popular as the last one. There isn't even an option to download DLC like in the previous game from the start menu.
Yes, but I meant that even though Japan had DLC, the stuff was already integrated in the game and only available from the Buyer's Center in certain months. Are there any items like that?
DeleteI have not come across any Japanese players talking about DLC or any information on release dates. But I'm keeping my eye out.
DeleteIn terms of DLC being integrated if you are referring to the previous game, only some DLC was added straight into brands in the game and some had to be downloaded as DLC. And we didn't even get all the same DLC as Japan :(
So far the nails contain my only negative criticism for this game: You can't buy out multiple nail designs at once. You have to keep talking to Lorelei and grab them one at a time
ReplyDeleteTotally agree. I hate having to keep talking to Lorelei to get more designs. You should be able to bulk buy them like make-up.
DeleteHow many nail designs are in each category? I want to know because getting all of them is extremely tedious and I want to complete it ASAP.
ReplyDeleteThe number varies from category to category. I will start posting nail guides this week, so they'll have all the information for each style in them.
