New Style Boutique 3: Styling Star - Demo Overview

A demo of New Style Boutique 3: Styling Star was released on the European and Australian eShop on October 19th. It is available for download for 3DS and 2DS models and shows a glimpse of what's to expect in the new game. The demo takes you through the early stages of the game and details the basic mechanics of the game. Not all features of the game are available in the demo. This guide will detail the demo and any new features that will be included in New Style Boutique 3. The demo can be played 30 times and your progress cannot be saved.

Start up the demo and you will be greeted by a menu screen. Select new game to get started! First you will need to choose the appearance of your character. There is a wide range of facial and body features to choose from to make your character unique. More styles and colours can be unlocked in the game to use such as eye colour and hairstyles. The categories available for customisation include:
  • Face Shape = 3 styles
  • Eye Shape = 20 styles (20 for single or 20 double eyelid)
  • Eye Colour = 5 colours
  • Eyebrow Shape = 18 styles
  • Mouth Shape = 13 styles
  • Mole Placement = 7 styles
  • Freckles = 2 (No freckles or freckles around the nose area)
  • Hairstyle = 10 styles (includes short, medium, long and up-do styles)
  • Hair Colour = 5 colours
  • Skin Tone = 8 shades
  • Height = Short, Medium or Tall
  • Favourite Clothes = Girly, Lively, Cool or Rock

The game adds a new feature to have single or double eyelids.

Overview of customisation options.

After you've decided on your characters look, the game begins! You will be greeted by a character called Tim who is your uncle. He runs a boutique that he is handling over to you to run. A girl named Abigail enters the boutique looking for a top she ordered. Tim suggests you pick out an item for Abigail. Next the game goes over the basic mechanics of choosing items and gives you two options to pick from for a top. Choose the AZ-USA branded top as Abigail's style is the bold/cool style and this brand matches that style. Abigail will try on her new top and it looks like she is happy with it. She will pay you for the top and you will see a contact card appear on the bottom screen. These are similar to the customer cards from New Style Boutique (Style Savvy 2) which listed information about the customer and showed the amount of stamps they had earned shopping at the boutique. More information about contact cards will appear later in the guide.

After this Tim will talk about handling over the boutique to you and how he is looking forward to going on a journey of discovery. He will talk about how much your character loves fashion and that you were meant to run this boutique. Next you will be given the option to choose an assistant for the boutique. There are six options to choose from, 3 girls and 3 boys. Choose carefully as you cannot change your pick after you have chosen (If you start playing the demo another time, you can choose a different one). No confirmation on whether you can swap them around like you could in New Style Boutique. The characters available to choose for the assistant includes:
  • Xin - Wears basic clothing
  • Sylvia - Wears feminine clothing
  • Hannah - Wears lively clothing
  • Ken - Wears basic clothing
  • Archie - Wears bold clothing
  • Rahil - Wears chic clothing

Tim will now talk to you about the contacts app which can be found from the phone menu screen. It details each characters job, hobby, some brief information about them and the number of hearts earned. Hearts detail how close of a relationship you have to that character. The more hearts you have with the character, the more invitations options that will be available when sending them messages using the messaging function. Now you need to pick a name for your boutique and the demo will inform you it cannot be changed once set. In the full game, you should be able to change the boutique name.

After this, Tim will tell you to head off to your apartment. The game will bring up a new feature which shows your profit and activity for the day. It will show a photo that you took that day, sales earned, stylist points and stylist rank. Your stylist rank increases when you serve customers at the boutique and other possibly other locations such as the beautician.

Overview of the day.

Style Boutique 3 has brought back the day/night cycle which was last seen in the original New Style Boutique (the first one of the 3DS). Style Boutique 2 worked off the 3DS clock, but the demo shows the new game will operate off an in-game clock. Time moved quite quick for myself in the demo, one day passed by in about 5 minutes. Hopefully they will be longer and the game provides enough content to be completed each day. I often found in New Style Boutique that I would run out of things to do each day and constantly had to move to the next day.

The clock is displayed in the left hand corner.

New Style Boutique 3: Styling Star - Game Details Revealed

Nintendo recently revealed more information about the next installment in the series: New Style Boutique 3: Styling Star. The press released contained a large amount of information on what's in store for players in the new game. Information revealed in the press release includes:
Nintendo presents: New Style Boutique 3 – Styling Star is the fourth installment in the fashion simulation series that has sold over 2.4 million units across Europe to date. As the story begins, the player will take over as the manager of her uncle’s fashion boutique, located in the heart of a city full of potential clients, each hoping to find that perfect outfit. Each client is an individual with his or her own personality and taste, and when they visit the shop it’s up to the player to listen to the clients’ requests and choose the most suitable clothes or accessories to match their needs. With over 20,000 items, many of which are brand new for this entry in the series, the creative outfit combinations are almost endless, and players will be able to let their inner styling star shine bright as they pick out perfect look after perfect look.
As the player’s style success story progresses, they will be approached by the talent agency Nin10 Productions, who need a stylist for their up-and-coming popstars. This game-changing event opens the door to the pop music world, and the chance to become a celebrity stylist. Players will help guide the three young singers on their road to stardom, designing outfits for them and assisting as they find their own identities. Eventually, the singers will perform on stage in outfits chosen by the player, and even adapt their musical styles to the fashion choices made for them. For example, choosing rock-themed clothing for a singer will lead her music in a rockier and edgier direction. There are 15 original pop songs included, in a range of styles, all specially written and recorded for the game. You can already check out one of the songs in the Nintendo presents: New Style Boutique 3 – Styling Star – Welcome to the new stage! trailer.
In addition to the huge number of in-game items with which to style customers, players can also use compatible amiibo during gameplay to add even more options. All currently available amiibo are compatible with Nintendo presents: New Style Boutique 3 – Styling Star. Some amiibo, including Animal Crossing, Splatoon and Kirby series amiibo, will unlock special character-themed design elements and emblems. Other amiibo will unlock Nintendo-themed design elements and emblems.
In addition to the fun shop management gameplay of previous titles, this entry contains a variety of exciting features, including:
- Menswear is back! Fashion is for everyone, and the men in town need a stylist too! Menswear returns as a fully-fledged feature in this game, with its own boutique. By helping out there, players can increase their influence around town and trigger menswear-specific story events.
- The Design Centre in-game app allow players to design their own clothes and outfits, and share them with each other online. Another in-game app, Shopdo, lets players upload their lovingly-designed boutique interiors, and even sell outfits to one another for in-game currency.
- New accessory types such as headphones, bangles and wristwatches give even more scope for creativity and customisation.
- Fashion’s not only about the clothes, and in the Beautician’s and Hair Salon players can put their makeup skills and hair-styling skills to work to add that extra something special to any look. The beautician’s salon now also includes nail styling – a brand new feature for this title, with a huge number of nail polish colours and designs to try out.
- The You Diva feature lets players relive the magic of the game’s music performances, and even customise them by changing the character performing and their outfit. Any of the more than 200 female characters encountered during the game, including the player’s own character, can shine like a star on stage.
It's exactly to see that men's fashion will be returning and Nintendo decided to add a decent amount of online and social features after the lackluster amount in the previous game. The new game will be focusing on story driven plot lines rather than random events such as the Five Sisters. Hopefully this will add more excitement and variety to the game. A demo of the game will be released on October 19th on the 3DS eShop.
